ATJ FOUNDATION

Strengthening our personal connection with communities

One year ago, a catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, shattering lives, destroying homes, and devastating communities, including the very places that make Myanmar a cherished destination for our travelers. Thanks to the generosity of the ATJ community, families at Inle Lake are back in their homes. But recovery does not end when a house is built. Today, many of those same families are still living without electricity.

In the weeks after the quake, the ATJ Foundation went to work alongside our trusted friend and longtime partner on the ground. Together we rebuilt bamboo homes for families in the Inle Lake region whose lives had been turned upside down, and with additional partners, medical aid reached communities that desperately needed care.

A year on, the rebuilding continues in a quieter form. Homes are standing again, but many remain without reliable power. As communities rebuild their lives, access to light and electricity has become one of their greatest needs. Our partners have now begun a new initiative to provide complete solar power systems for families who still have no access to basic electricity.

For $430, one family receives a complete solar power system, bringing light into their home, allowing children to study after dark, improving safety, and providing power for everyday life. While the world’s attention has moved on, recovery continues. So does the opportunity to make a lasting difference.

The ATJ Foundation, with nearly four decades of direct ties in Myanmar, can make an immense difference. To help launch this next phase, the ATJ Foundation will match every donation, dollar for dollar, up to $4,000 from our emergency relief reserve. Together we can double the impact of every gift and bring solar power to even more families. Myanmar’s people are strong, but they cannot recover alone.
