Supporting Muang La

Many of you now know that a mining dam broke recently outside of Muang La, Laos and the result was a wave of mud that destroyed everything in its path. Muang La Lodge (where many of our travelers and staff have stayed) has indefinitely closed due to the damage and their staff displaced. We have also been in contact with the local authorities and in addition to the Muang La Lodge suffering great damage, the Ban Phou Xai community has been completely leveled – 12 dwellings in total.

We just received an update from our friends in Thailand and Laos. As a result of the ATJ Foundation and traveler donations, two support team members hired a truck and travelled to Oudomxay province to purchase and deliver much needed supplies. In consultation with the local authorities it was identified what was needed in this early stage of the recovery:

  • Blankets – 65 items
  • Pillows – 50 items
  • Mosquito Nest – 50 items
  • Mats -50 items
  • Sheets – 50 items
  • Rice – 65 bags

The above items were delivered to the villages of Ban Phonsai and Ban Houy La. These villages are located 21km away from Oudomxay city and were hit very hard in this recent event. Our support team donated directly to the community and villagers, every family in need received 1 full set of (Blankets, Pillows, Mosquito Nets, Mats, Sheets and Rice 10Kg).

In total, the ATJ Foundation has sent $3,000 for this immediate support. If you would like to help, please click the link below and we will add your funds to our donation. Any amount will be much appreciated.

The transport and cost of staffing this mission is being donated by our friends in Thailand and Laos, therefore 100% of any donation that we raise, will continue to go directly to the people.

The ATJ Foundation invests in a variety of carefully selected relief work initiatives that support grassroots assistance in Asia and the Pacific to very specific projects to aid in health, safety and rebuilding on the heels of natural disasters and unexpected adversities. We invite our travelers and our staff to become involved in strengthening our personal connection with the communities that have always been at the heart of our efforts.
