We Stand With Myanmar, part 1

Join Us in Supporting Those in Need.

Dear ATJ Travelers & Friends,

Mingalaba! Like many of you, we have been watching the unfolding tragedy in Myanmar (Burma) with profound shock and sadness. For more than three decades, Myanmar has held a very special place in our hearts and for those of you who have been fortunate enough to visit this magical land, we are certain you feel the same way.  Myanmar is home to the warmest and most welcoming people on the planet which makes this situation that much more heartbreaking.

We have been in regular contact with our close personal friend and business partner, Kyaw, and his family including his youngest brother YeYe, and they have asked for our help in supporting them and their nascent democracy. Since February 1st of this year, there have been several hundred deaths and thousands more injured and the situation continues to worsen daily.  There are now well over 2000 political prisoners in jail, and this number is growing daily with hundreds more in hiding: mostly students, monks, civil servants, and elected members of parliament, who are all facing tremendous atrocities.

Kyaw and his close-knit group of community organizers are in dire need of financial support so they can provide food and medical care for those jailed and their families, as well as hire lawyers to represent those currently detained and those who will be arrested in the imminent future. All monies raised will go directly to these causes and will be overseen by Kyaw and his group of organizers.

In addition to your generous financial support, please also contact your elected representatives and strongly encourage that our government advocate for the people of Myanmar and help to put an end to this strife.
